Ernest Thompson Seton
|
|
Ernest Thompson Seton was born in England in 1860 and
died in the United States in 1946. An author, painter, and naturalist, he was co-founder,
with Lord Baden-Powell, of the Boy Scouts of America, an organization that promotes
respect among youth for nature’s gifts. Seton was especially concerned with the
plight of the American Indians and the environment, at a time when both were sadly
neglected by society. His stories and paintings of wildlife are standard works on
nature study for boys and girls, and continue to be used widely today. Author of
over 50 books, Mr. Seton’s message that nature is a very good thing is more relevant
than ever today. Currently, the Ernest Thompson Seton Institute in Los Angeles,
CA is dedicated to preserving Seton’s art and writings.
He is the author of The
Gospel of the Redman: Commemorative Edition.
