Reviews (hide/show)

“This simple book is aimed at family bedtime, with its minimal, incantatory text (“Angels, angels, fill the air,/ coming down from way up there”) and pastel palette. Since angels are nondenominational and figure in a multitude of religions, the book offers an easy introduction to a supernatural concept without being religiously prescriptive. [Alexis York] Lumbard (The Conference of the Birds) offers an understated text for the visual fireworks of illustrator Weedn, who is well known for her inspirational work. Weedn’s visual signature of soft colors and lines dominates the book. Angels can be anodyne, and the book leans in that direction, but it is also soothing and spiritually generous. Ages 2–up.”
Publishers Weekly
Angels is a delectable non-denominational illustrated story of different angels who shelter, help, protect and care for children everywhere in the world. Filled with embroidered, painted detailed, devotion -laden images of kind seasonal angels, healing angels, and protecting, faith-nurturing angels, the poem story gently seeps into a child’s awareness as dreams begin to become real. Angels represents angels in winged human forms of different racial origins and skin colors for ethnic inclusiveness. The effect of Angels is to soothe, charm, prolong, and protect with thoughts of gentle blessing presences throughout the days and years, unseen but always caring. Angels is a lovely book for children of all backgrounds ages 2-4 and up.”
